RTT's Origin
Anthony Davy at RTT
Tony has been involved with motorcycles since the tender age of 4 years old – you could say it’s in his blood! Both his grandparents were classic motorcyclists from as early as 1941 during the war – one a competent trials rider and the other a despatch rider, so motorcycling definitely flows in the veins. At the age of 4 Tony was introduced to the Suzuki TS 125 as a pillion rider and then sat up front with assistance from the pillion seat. This was just the start of a long association with motorcycles!
History of Bikes
As the years passed by, bikes became a major part in Tony’s life. On his 5th birthday a Yamaha TY80 appeared in the garage and was the start of learning how to keep a bike clean and making sure it was always ready to ride.
Schoolboy MX then came along with a 1978 Yamaha YZ 80 followed by a monster bike at the time, a 1977 Yamaha DT250 (could only start it on the side stand as he recalls!). After many years in senior 125 MX classes with moderate success. the roads came along with the 1st ex proddy racer, the RGV250VJ21. Then followed a VFR 400 nc30 after which bike after bike became a blur as changing to many newer bikes.
After a 5yr break and a few incident’s and!! Broken bones an opportunity arose to buy a Bare Bones CBR 600F3 in millions of pieces, this was built to a class-winning Steelie and the bug bit again. Going on to finish his 1st newcomer championship in 2nd and 3rd in 600 classes. The following year went well until last race but that’s part of the beauty in racing.
Competing and Work History
Building track bikes and prepping both MX and trials bikes started to become a daily occupation having worked for Bill Head motorcycles, Doug Hacking. Tony went on to start building track bikes for others in any spare time available. Fast forward to 2010 and an opportunity brought him to a NW Honda taking qualifications there before heading to Chorley Yamaha for many years taking as much information and Yamaha courses as possible; completing bronze, silver and gold awards along with MOT station management and workshop organisation. A year was spent at Fast Line where restoration was the main feed of the workshop. An offer was presented for senior Tec at another Yamaha/multi-franchise dealer which lead to many many qualifications for both Yamaha and KTM and Kawasaki MOT management to mention a few.
